NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

MUMBAI: India cricket kit sponsor Nike is facing the heat after Indian players reportedly complained to the BCCI about the "sub-standard clothing" being provided to them. According to a report in the Indian Express, BCCI chief executive officer Rahul Johri and general manager Game Development Ratnakar Shetty have both raised the issue with the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA).

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry plans to put in new guidelines in place for the selection of athletes for national sports awards. Criteria for selection will be revised so that un-nominated athletes could also be considered for honours like the Arjuna awards.

AGARTALA: The Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), with financial assistance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has set out plans to build a 25,000-seat capacity international standard cricket stadium with all modern facilities near here.  Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday formally launched the works for the stadium, being constructed at Narshingarh, 20 km north of Agartala, IANS reports.

MUMBAI: A recent survey indicates that hotel searches for England by Indian travellers rose by 16 per cent during the Women’s Cricket World Cup held in England during June and July this year as compared to the same period in 2016. Similarly, searches for hotels in London by Indian travellers saw an increase of 23 per cent for the duration of the Wimbledon tournament in 2017, the survey reveals.
