NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

MELBOURNE: Reports appearing online and on social media channels provided heft to growing speculation Monday that a resolution was at hand to the protracted pay dispute between Cricket Australia (CA) and the players' union.  However, CA and the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) declined to comment on the progress of intensive talks that continued to take place here Monday.

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is setting up a reserve fund of around PKR1 billion (Rs610 million) to take care of the legal costs of filing a compensation claim against the Indian board before the ICC disputes resolution committee. PCB chairman, Shaharyar Khan said in an interview on Saturday that the board of governor's meeting on Friday had given approval for the budget to cover the legal costs.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has set on August 22 to hear arguments on a petition moved by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking e-auctioning of media rights of the Indian Premier League.  For the record, 24 August is the last date given by the BCCI for purchase of its Invitation To Tender (ITT) document and 28 August is when the bids are supposed to be opened and the winning bidders announced.

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Thursday announced a cash award of Rs1.3 million for each of the 10 women's cricketers employed with his department for their inspiring show at the World Cup. Indian women's team ended runners-up at the ICC event, narrowly losing the title clash to hosts England. The minister made the announcement at a felicitation function for the cricketers.
