Universal Music joins hands with eSports company

COLOGNE: The Central European division of Universal Music Group (UMG) have announced a multi-year partnership with ESL Gaming, the world’s biggest eSports company that will be managed out of UMG’s Berlin headquarters.

The aim of the agreement is to exclusively help Universal discover and promote new artists through ESL’s global tournaments and channels. In an industry first, UMG will partner with ESL to create the ultimate destination for gaming and music fans alike to experience the official soundtrack of the world’s esports leagues and tournaments.

MUNICH: Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, also known as the Green-Whites, are all set to join the eSports bandwagon courtesy a strategic alliance with German eSports company, Stark.   The club’s eSports team will be participating in digital gaming competitions featuring the popular EA Sports’ FIFA19 video game during the autumn season.

eSports co TSM raises $37m from Steph Curry, Steve Young, others
MUMBAI: Swift, the parent company of North American eSports organization Team SoloMid (TSM), has announced the close of a $37 million series A funding round.  First reported in Forbes, the funding was led by Ethan Kurzweil of Bessemer Venture Partners, which also backs Blue Apron and Pinterest, and was previously an investor in Twitch.

F1 partners FB for eSports docu
LONDON: After its first-ever eSports Pro Draft, Formula 1 has decided to release a documentary on the event in partnership with social media giant Facebook.  According to a report in Autosport, the documentary will feature 4 episodes that will be streamed on Facebook and broadcast on television with a few channels starting Wednesday. LOS ANGELES: Global eSports organization Immortals announced Tuesday that Meg Whitman, former CEO of Hewlett Packard and eBay, made a significant investment in the company, her first in eSports, and had been named to Immortals’ board of directors.  Neither the quantum of investment, nor the amount of stake Whitman was being offered, were disclosed.

Overwatch League
World’s 1st city-based global eSports league
IRVINE, California: ESPN, Disney XD and Blizzard Entertainment have announced an exclusive multiyear agreement for live television coverage of the Overwatch League, the world’s first major global city-based eSports league. The deal comes months after video game live streaming platform Twitch had agreed to showcase the tournament for a $90 million fee, according to SportsPro media.

Singtel launches APac eSports league
SINGAPORE: The Singtel Group on Tuesday launched the PVP eSports Championship, a multi-title and regional league with a prize pool of $300,000. To be held in Singapore from October 5 to 7, the PVP eSports Championship signals the Singtel Group’s ambition to foster a "vibrant e-sports ecosystem and community together with Optus and regional associates Airtel, AIS, Globe and Telkomsel".
